When this massive Humpback Whale raised its fluke skywards, I was entranced by the beautiful underside pattern of its fluke.

Not only is each whale’s fluke pattern different and unique, just like our finger print, there is also a wonderful story in each as the scratches and scrapes tell the history of the whale’s conflicts and conquests in etchings reminiscent of an ancient art form.

Like a great wanderer, the pattern on the underside of this whale’s tail is its final signature on the rippled pages of the ocean, as it begins its next dive into a mysterious world.
